Installation Instructions - Chicken Feeder

Remove the Port Plugs

Step 1

Remove the red port plugs from each feeder port.

You can keep these to one side and use them to plug the openings overnight or during periods when your chickens aren’t using the feeder.

This helps to keep pests and moisture out of the feeder.

Place the Feeder on a Stand

Step 2

Place the feeder on a stable, raised stand.

Make sure the bottom edge of each feeder port sits roughly at the shoulder height of your smallest chicken.

This height keeps the feed clean and helps prevent waste.

Remove the Lid and Fill With Feed

Step 3

Remove the lid and fill the feeder with your chosen feed.

This feeder works best with pellets or layers mash, but you can also use crumble as long as it stays dry.

Avoid very fine powder mixes, as they can settle inside the port and reduce feeding flow.

Once filled, replace the lid to keep the feed fresh and protected.

Remove the Seal Tab and Close the Lid

Step 4

Remove the seal tab on the edge of the feeder.

This allows the lid to open and close normally and ensures it can form a proper weatherproof seal to keep your feed dry and protected.

Close the lid firmly after filling.

Position the Feeder

Step 5

Place the feeder on a stable, raised stand either inside the coop or in the run.

Raising the feeder off the ground helps keep the feed clean, dry, and free from contamination, while also making it easier for your chickens to use.

You can now choose the best location for your setup.

Training (If Your Chickens Are New to Port Feeders)

Step 6

If your chickens haven’t used a port-style feeder before, they may need a little training to understand how it works.

This is completely normal and only needs to be done once.

Most chickens pick it up very quickly. For first-time users see the next step.

Help Your Chickens Discover the Feed

Step 7

To help your chickens understand how the feeder works, sprinkle a small amount of feed around the edge of each port so they can see and peck at it.

Once they take their first few pecks, they quickly learn that more feed is available inside the feeder.

You’ll only need to do this the first time — after that, they use it confidently on their own.

Your feeder is now ready for your chickens to use!
